Carly McCann creates functional wheel thrown ceramics that are playful and experimental. Excited by the rich possibilities within ceramics, Carly researches and develops her own clay-bodies & glazes, and is currently exploring ‘wild clay’ and other wild materials in her practice. She is also passionate about atmospheric firing methods.

Carly attended post grad at Emily Carr University of Art and Design (Vancouver, BC) and graduated in 2016. There she was the recipient of a BC Arts Council Scholarship Award. After graduation, she spent four years as head ceramics instructor and technician at the Surrey Art Gallery (Canada). In 2019, Carly emigrated to Galway, Ireland (her husband’s birthplace) and has become a full-time ceramicist. She is a current Member of Ceramics Ireland, Visual Arts Ireland and Design & Crafts Council Ireland, Clay Galway and is the co-coordinator of the Galway Potters Market. She works from her own studio based out of Art in Mind Studios in Galway City. Carly was recently chosen for the 2021 Ceramics Ireland Creativity in Craftsmanship Award.
