Juliet Ball grew up in England.
Her training in ceramics started in 1990 at the C.N.I.F.O.P. (Centre National d’Initiation, de Formation et de Perfectionnement de la Poterie et du Grès) in the Puisaye in Central France, an area which was formerly the major stoneware producing area of France, and still renowned for its tradition of pottery making.
She worked at the well-established Poterie du Carbassou in Southern France before setting up her own pottery studio in the Pyrenées Orientales.
Juliet moved to Ireland with her family in 2003 and established, “Cloonmore Pottery” near Moycullen, Co. Galway, where she continues to develop her range of functional ash-glazed stoneware, glazed porcelain and one-off smoke-fired pieces
Juliet’s work remains firmly grounded in the traditions of functional pottery, drawing inspiration from diverse sources, such as Japanese ceramics, Chinese and Korean porcelain, and Amerindian and Portuguese black-fired ware. All of her work is hand-thrown and hand finished. She makes her own glazes from natural raw materials and fires in reduction in a gas kiln.
She currently exhibits her work at: SO Fine Art Editions, Powerscourt Townhouse, Dublin; Blue Egg Gallery, Wexford; Sliding Rock Gallery, Spiddal and she participates in Ceramics Ireland annual exhibitions. She is a participant of the DCCI Portfolio program to which she was selected in 2015. Her work is for sale at the annual Galway Potters Market, which she established in 2011 with other studio potters from Galway. She also has a stall at the weekly Saturday Market in Galway, and her work can also be seen at her showroom at Cloonmore Pottery.
